New Brunswick's celebration of National Biotech Week a big success
September 25, 2009Fredericton, NB - New Brunswick's National Biotech Week program qualified as a best ever for the province's biosciences sector, and featured a number of first ever events and activities for the Province. This included:
- An official proclamation of National Biotechnology week by Premier Shawn Graham
[PDF of Declaration] - A launch event on September 22 that included a welcome from Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency); and the Honourable Victor Boudreau, Minister of Business New Brunswick, and a guest speaker, Dr. Rainer Engelhardt from BIOTECanada on "The Emerging Bio-Economy”
- A three-hour "Let's Chat about BioSciences”, which included displays by over a dozen New Brunswick companies and institutions on their latest bioscience innovations
- Presentation of the 2009 New Brunswick BioSciences Achievement Award
- A presentation from W. Steven Burke, President and CEO, Biofuels Centre of North Carolina "Twenty years of nurturing the biotechnology endeavor in North Carolina”
- An official launch of New Brunswick's BioSciences Task Force
National Biotechnology Week is celebrated across Canada, and is coordinated by BIOTECanada - Canada's lead organization for biotechnology.
